Arrival/ Getting Around

There is one airport in Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai International Airport. The airport to the city centre is a very short distance-- 15 mins or less. Since the airport is very close to most hotels and hostels the cost to take a taxi are very low. There are also other options like tuk tuk, rickshaw or songthaew. These are also the cheapest ways to get around the city. Make sure you negotiate pricing before you get in! Also, walking is another option. A lot of attractions are within walking distance.

What to See

Chiang Mai has lots of small temples, it's hard to get get caught up in seeing them all.  The larger temples are Wat Chiang Man, Wat Chedi Luang and Doi Suthep.

Other attractions include Saturday/Sunday walking street, night bazaar, cooking classes, spas, ladyboy shows, etc. There are also a number of street markets and museums to visit.

What to Eat & Drink

Chiang Mai is well known for their street food. However, you most likely won't find any vedors cooking up food during the day as it is too hot. When the sun goes down the streets are transformed into standing restaurants. Food in Thailand is already cheap, but buying from street vendors is even cheaper! Don't be afraid to eat food on the street, it is very sanitary!

                           Must try Dishes:
Khao soi Islam, Kai yang (bbq chicken), Sai oua (grilled herb sausage) and of course pad thai!

Where to Stay

Chiang Mai is where you will find a lot of backpackers. With backpackers comes cheap accomodations. Hostels are obviously the best places to stay but in Chiang Mai there are lots of hostels where ac is not included. For the best sleep, make sure to pick a room with ac!

Chiang mai also has hotels. They are also pretty cheap. If you are looking to meet people hostels would be the best choice for you.
