Korea has some very unexpected and interesting places. Edelweiss, is one off them. If you have ever head the word Edelweiss before you would know that it is the national flower of Switzerland. Hence, Edelweiss is another theme town with the same concept of Petite France, but dedicated to Switzerland.
Located in Gapyeong, Edelweiss is a good distance away from Seoul but very doable in one day. If you want to experience something different in Korea, then you should visit Gapyeong. Gapyeong is a small county that is famous for it's water sports, hiking and tourist attractions like Nami Island.
You can learn about the Swiss Culture
Edelweiss is not just a theme village, it was actually created to teach about the Swiss culture. Here you can learn about everything Swiss. This is very much a learning experience as well as a fun experience. There are various buildings devoted to teach all things Swiss; 32 buildings with different themes like coffee, wine, chocolate, cheese, etc. Who doesn't love the Nutcracker? Here you can also learn about the origins of the Nutcracker.
Take a tour of the wine museum. Here you can learn about the process of making wine, how to smell & hold a wine glass correctly, etc. There is also a small vineyard in the backyard.
The Vibrant Swiss Inspired Architecture
Now I have never been to Switzerland but I know they have an extensive Medieval History. This village emulates the old history of Switzerland.
Walking through the streets makes you feel like you've left Korea and arrive in Switzerland in under 2 hours (wishful thing)!
At any moment you feel like a horse drawn carriage will stroll down the street and people will burst through the windows in the houses and break out in song!
To get Beautiful Visuals that give your Instagram Life
These days, I think a lot about going to places that will look good on Instagram. It's not because I want to impress people, it's because I want my feed to look amazing. Instagram is my creative outlet. I love photography and I have been trying to get better at the craft. I get motivated on how amazing the photos I take look on Instagram. That was I know I am getting better.
I mean look at these photos! Does this look like Korea to you?
They have window panes and sills of every colour and with different flowers so that you can take creative photos.
The Natural Beauty
Gapyeong is located in the countryside of Gyeonggido province. This area is very mountainous and still very natural. You will get amazing views anywhere in this town. However, the views in Edelweiss are breathtaking. You can enjoy lunch at the cafe, That's Coffee, while overlooking the mountains.
From each of the houses that you visit, make sure to take a look in the backyard!
Walk around and smell some roses!
From rose bushes to log walls, Edelweiss is a very inspiring place.
To do something New and Exciting
After being in Korea for quite some time, I found museums, temples and palaces to be quite tedious. Going on a weekend trip to different parts of Korea is always an option but i'm all about trying to save money and time. Edelweiss is a great experience for people who are into trying new things. At Edelweiss you can book events like cheese & fondue tastings and making chocolate. Make sure to take the slide down to Hillside Road!
Leave a message in the Love building.
For Some Peace and Quiet
Being so far away from Seoul this town is alot quieter (except holidays). There is virtually no traffic, no traffic noises, less pollution and more natural sounds. Who doesn't love the sound of birds chirping and wind blowing? I could just sit here for hours gazing into the distance, which is actually what I did for 2 hours!
Seeing the sky so blue and the clouds spewed in the sky is just a very calming feeling.
A Romantic getaway with Bae
I feel like everywhere in Korea rolls out the red carpet for couples. I am single and do not care about how I look going to these romantic places alone. However, if you hsve a significant other this is a dream day trip for the two of you! Why? This place is beautiful, it's scenic and you can get amazing couple shots with the Bern bear costume heads. There are also couple spots like the Love Pond, Flower Garden, Love building and Love Square. Talk about lot of love!
Take couple pictures here!
