The Place 더플레이스 is an Italian restaurant in Seoul that has recently been getting a lot of attention for the way that they cook their pizza. The pizza is in the shape of a dome, made out of dough obviously, then is set on fire to cook the pizza. Sounds cool right?! I visited 'The Place' on an empty stomach so I wanted more than just a few pizza slices. We ended up ordering a 3-course dinner meal that came with salad, pasta, pizza and 2 ades for 57,000 won. We got the ricotta salad which had oranges and grapefruit slices, seafood tomato pasta, wine ade and the bomb pizza. The wine are is actually just soda with a grape wine on top! Tres delicieux! The pizza dough gets its black colour from squid ink. They actually have squid ink fries as well! Within 5 minutes we already had our add and salad. Another 5 minutes later our pasta came. The service was really fast, but the restaurant wasn't very busy at the time we went. It took maybe about 15-20 minutes for our pizza to come out. Our waitress told us the flame tends to die fast, so if we want to take a video or photos to get our phones ready. Click below to watch the pizza cooking method! The pizza actually looked pretty good and actually was quite delicious. I wasn't really expecting much from the pizza, I was just excited about the show. The top of the pizza dome is actually edible as well. It was actually thick and soft, like pita bread. With the pizza came two dipping sauces, honey and ceasar, and also a salsa. This was actually a lot of good. We weren't able to finish everything but we were very satisfied. This restaurant is worth a visit! Click here to check out the menu.
To get to The Place look at the map below. The subway station is Seoul Station, exit 9 and enter the building on the left ride, it's on the first floor.
