I think I have partied in almost all the hot spots in Seoul. Itaewon is one place I haven't really explored or have really been fond of. Itaewon is the multicultural hub in Seoul. Here you can catch people from all walks of life- Europeans, Africans, Indians to lady's of the night. They have lots of diverse cuisines as well, which is usually the only reason I go there. I have a few weird/creepy experiences in Itaewon especially with men which has deterred me away from going there often. However, I heard they had a great nightlife. Even at work my Korean co-workers love to go there. So I looked for some clubs/lounges to go to in Itaewon for a girls night. Usually I go out with my male co-workers, it's hard to get the girls to go out. We decided to do dinner, drinks and a night out. We didn't know what we wanted to eat so we walked around the alley walk, where all the clubs and a lot of restaurant are, until we found something. We came across a place called Hive or something. Lol I can't remember the name, but it has something to do with bees. Anyway their menu looked good so we went in. We all ordered drinks-- I got a Cherry Blossom cocktail which turned out to be HELLA strong halfway through, the other girls got a daiquiri and martini. As for food I ordered the Hamburg steak which came with veggies, rice, potato wedges and pineapple. It was a delicious meal I devoured everything. The total came to 29,000 won, not bad. After eating we wanted to find a place to go for drinks. It was only about 9:30 pm so we thought it would be too early to head to a club. Earlier we walked by a place called Foxhole, so we decided to try it out. On the floor level of the lounge there is a mannequin with a rabbit head on, which I thought was a real person. Foxhole is four floors with a rooftop lounge. Its a bar/restaurant and lounge so if you feel like dancing, having drinks or dinner you can do all of those. We saw this really cool rock moon shooter that look interesting. It's basically five shooter cocktails having off branches. You don't know what flavours you are going to get they are just random. We thought what the heck so we ordered it. I gotta say I wasn't very impressed, some of the shooters tasted like juice with tonic water, the others tasted like pure tequila and were so hard to finish. Although I loved the colours of the drinks. The price for these shooters was 33,000 won. It was pretty packed when we first came in, but then started to slow down a bit. It seems to be a meeting place before you go out and party. After that we headed to District which hosts 3 different venues; Prost, Glam Lounge and Mute. We went to Glam first and it was bananas in there. It was way too packed. It looks like a large place but the bar is quite big and there are lots of tables as well. Walking space is tiny which is why a lot of people are by the bar. There is literally no where to stand. I love the look of this lounge but I found the people to be quite stuck up and rude compared to everywhere else I have been in Seoul. People were a lot older here-- between 28-35-- and very pushy. The drinks weren't expensive if you compare them to Gangnam prices; 10,000 won for a cocktail. I don't think I would go there again unless I had a table. We went across the hall to Mute. It cost 10,000 won before 12 am and you get a free drink ticket, so it's basically free entry. It started off really slow, the bouncer said it gets better around 1 am. He was right it did get better but not as I would have liked. People decided they wanted to use up the dance floor for a break dance battle :/. Don't get me wrong I love break dancing but I wanted to dance. The dance floor is pretty small because they have a lot of standing tables spread around the club. I found 4/5 people smoked in that place and it just felt really smoky which hurt my throat and eyes. Obviously I've been to clubs where people smoked but I never felt this horrible around it before. At Mute the smoking was just way too much and consistent. The music here is EDM which I am starting to love more and more. I would like to come back again. Directions
Finding these places is very easy as they are all along the same strip in Itaewon. Take the Subway to Itaewon Station on Line 6 (brown line). Leave through Exit 1, once you exit you will be at the Hamilton Hotel. From the subway go straight and turn right at the first side street and you will reach the Itaewon alley way. If you go right you will see a big brown building which is District and if you go left you will see Foxhole and the Hive.
