Chuncheon is a city in the Gangwon Province, northeast of Seoul. Although Chuncheon does get a lot of tourism, the city seems to be quite peaceful. There are many rivers and mountains, which make this area great for people who like the outdoors and a slower pace. Getting around can be quite taxing as the buses do not run as often as they do in the city and there are no subways. The most efficient way to get around would be using taxis or the city tour bus that has 3 courses to choose from. Most of the activities to do in the city are outside, so it's best to go on a warmer day. Read below to see some things you can do in Chuncheon!
Soyanggang Skywalk
Soyanggang Skywalk is a 156m glass walkway towering over the Soyang River. It only costs ₩2,000 to walk across the skywalk. Don't forget to put on the shoe covers! The views are very beautiful and it's a pretty thrilling experience. If the glass skywalk scares you, you can walk down to the dock and go on a speedboat tour or rent a duck paddle boat and sail around the lake depending on the tide. Another popular attraction is the Statue of Soyanggang Maid, which was built to promote the famous Korean song "Soyanggang Maid" and the Soyang River.
Hyoja Mural Village
Hyojadong is a quiet little mural village. There are a lot of unique painting which are very fun to take pictures of and with. Unfortunately, there are a lot of cars blocking the paintings. Even the houses here are different than what you see in other cities.
Cafe Santorini & Cafe Street
Cafe Santorini is one of the most famous restaurants in Chuncheon as it has a beautiful interior and hold a lot of weddings. The top floor is the restaurant and the bottom floor is the cafe/bakery. Try your best to get a table by the window, so you can enjoy the beautiful views while eating your meal. Cafe Santorini is a Greek themed restaurant that serves Italian food.... Strange I know. However, the food is amazing! Make sure to get the meal set, they come with bread, soup, a large salad platter, pasta, rice or pizza, steak and coffee or tea! The food is pricey but there is lots of it! After you finish eating you can take pictures with the arch behind the restaurant. There are also other cafes along the street that offer beautiful views if have already eaten.
Animation Museum & Robot Studio
The Animation Museum is an interesting place to visit, not just for those who like animation or children. Here, you learn about the history of animation from different countries and get to see the different animation styles. There aren't a lot of interactive activities as most displays are not to be touched. You can also rent a polaroid camera for free, but you have to buy the film. If you are looking for more interactive games then you should visit the Robot Studio. To visit both museums the cost is ₩9,000. At the robot museum you can watch robots dance to K-Pop, experience virtual reality, fly a drone and a lot more! However, a lot of these activities are not included in the ticket price, so you will have to pay out of pocket.
Chuncheon may be far from the Seoul area but has a lot more attractions to see and do. If you are wanting to experience something new then Chuncheon is a great place to start. From Seoul Express terminal is it 1.5hrs. You can also take the subway to Chuncheon Station.
