I'm not the biggest sports fan, but one of the things I wanted to do in Korea is see a basketball game. So, that's just what we did this weekend. It was one of the first games this season. We saw the Samsung Thunders, the Seoul based team, versus Jeonju KCC. Naturally we will cheer for the Seoul team because those are the only games we can attend. The Thunders are ranked 8 out of 10, so they aren't the best team. Sports tickets are very affordable here. We paid 8,000 won ($8) for very close seats. Even court side seats are around 50,000 won. Also, the basketball league hasn't been around very long, it's about 18 years old. There are some overseas players on the teams as well.
Of course, selfie!
Here is the team. Number 30 is my favorite.
The stadium was a lot smaller than I expected. We arrived early so we watched the teams practice, where we saw their shots weren't very good.
This was how close our seats were. Pretty good view for 8,000 won.
As we waited for the game to start we got food and took some fan pictures. In this stadium there aren't many options to get food and aren't many vendors, so it's best to bring your own.
Finally it was time for the game to start. There are lots of good action shots of the game.
Cheerleaders cheering. The cheerleaders definitely need some work. They neglected one whole side of the gymnasium. When raffles and games were going on they also just focused on one little section.
At halftime, there was a challenge where everyone had to throw their little basketball, which was given to us when we entered, into the two boxes on the court from your seat. Obviously, many people did not get it in.
It's getting intense, even though the Thunders can't win. The whole game they were behind 20+ point. Their 3 pointers were horrible, so were the regular shots. KCC had really good shooters on their team.
I don't know if it was because the season is just starting, but I expected more from this game. Especially because there are foreigners on the team. But I would still go to another game. Maybe later in the season games will be more fun. Also, i'd like to see the Thunders play a team that is in the top 3 ranking.
