The White Temple aka Wat Rong Khun is a contemporary art exhibit style Buddhist Temple. This temple was the reason why I wanted to come to Chiang Rai. The White Temple is the most visited attraction in Chiang Rai for good reason; It's not like any other temple in the country. It's all white with mirrored glass embedded in the plaster. When I went it was around 5 pm which is not as busy. Admission is free and the temple is open from 8am-6pm.
This temple is great for taking pictures because close up you can really see the symbolism. At the front of the bridge you can see hands reaching up which symbolize souls suffering in hell. Then they've got the devil horns on both sides.
The temple has multiple ponds on the ground but this one is a Koi pond on the East side of the temple.
There are Buddhist ornaments and trinkets that you can buy, just write your name and the date you visited or the trinket and hang it up at one of the areas on the temple grounds.
There aren't many buildings on the property but they are all very unique looking buildings. When entering the buildings don't forget to take off your shoes.
The beautiful golden building is actually a beautiful golden toilet! It is the most luxurious bathroom I have ever seen! Make sure to take a look inside.
At first I thought this was a person in a robot costume, but then it never moved.
Throughout the temple are examples of modern pop culture. Can you name the movie characters?
I'm so happy I was able to get to Chiang Rai, this temple is so beautiful and worth the trip.
