Saturday, September 6th
So, after watching the sunset we all got breakfast in the town of Dongdae where the ferry terminal is located. We had about an hour to kill because the ferry didn't leave until 9 am i believe. I had the WORST Kimbap ever, but that was one of the only places open so I had no choice. Kimbap is the Korean version of sushi. Yuck!
After breakfast we headed down to the ferry terminal where we got our tickets for the 3 hour ferry ride to Ulleungdo. The ferry ride was pretty calm, I was a little apprehensive just because of what happened earlier this year with the Sewol ferry accident. But obviously they won't make the same mistake twice. I slept most of the 3 hour ride, so I don't remember much of it. I just know when I woke up I was still dead tired. This picture is right after getting off the ferry.
When we got to Ulleungdo we went straight to the hotel, checked in, then had lunch. We stayed in the largest town on the Island, called Dodong. Lunch was mediocre; we had rice, seaweed, kimchi, cucumbers with red pepper paste, fish cakes and sardines..... Yea not appetizing at all! After lunch we got ready to do some sightseeing. This is the from the terrace of the hotel. It was called the Ulleungo Hotel, it was a pension house.... Basically means you sleep on the floor, nothing special about this place!
Amazing views everywhere!
After settling into our hotel and having lunch we started touring the island. First we walked down to the Dodong sea port. The first picture I took looked very dull, so I changed my camera setting which made the pictures look a lot more realistic.
After we took our pictures at the port we started our real walk along the Dodong Seaside walkway, which was the highlight of this trip!
There are cartoon squid and pumpkin people because Ulleungdo is known for these things!
How amazing is this scenery?
The water is so blue!
It's amazing what nature can do!
The volcanic rock looks amazing. The water is so clean, clear and blue. I've never seen water like this before it was so exciting!
Although we were sleep deprived Sarah, Jung and I had to take some pictures....Yes I am missing eyebrows lol.....
So the last few pictures have been of the sea cave this picture explains how it was made.
As we continued on the scenery kept getting better!
Another picture deeper into the cave
This is amazing, look at this water! It looks like the boat is almost floating on a rock!
I can't get over how beautiful this place is.
Even the rocks are beautiful LOL
I love to take pictures of scenery but I made sure to get portraits with me in it. Usually I hate when people take my picture because they suck as photographers, but lucky I had good ones! This picture looks amazing! At this point we stopped because people were going to do some bridge jumping. I'm not a strong swimmer so of course I didn't do it. But it looked like a lot of fun. the water was beautiful, and clear and it was also a hot day. We stayed at this bridge for about an hour while people jumped into the water.
I'm also a big fan of selfie pictures. I'm always taking selfies. Everywhere I've visited in Korea i've been taking selfies!
We even did a "groupie." So you will see lots of group shots like this. Jung, Sarah and I are now groupie lovers lol.
After Sarah was done with her bridge jumping, we continued on our journey to the lighthouse to check out the view.
You may not care for rocks, but the ones here are amazing. It's obviously because this was a volcanic island, but my god!
I love that there are explanations everywhere. This definitely helps you to understand more about what you see here, and its written in English!
This was a loooooooong journey to this lighthouse. It was hot and we were tired but we kept on moving. I don't remember how long it took but I know it was a couple miles! We finally made our way to where the Dodong lighthouse was but first we took a break by a little restaurant and had a couple beers. Since we were on vacation and all. Then continued on our way....
I was not feeling this hike at all. First of all I was tipsy, tired, hot, hungry and out of shape. Plus walking here reminded me of children of the corn....a little freaky. If you don't know what it is you have to google it or watch it and you will understand!
It was so funny to see Billy and his friends just munching away at grass... And it got me wondering, do Koreans eat goat meat? I've never seen it on any menu before. If not what do they do with them?
Lol they look all excited and i'm so calm. Finally we made it up!
Even though I bitched, panted, and slipped a few times the hike up was worth it as you can see from theses pictures. After this we have the long seaside walkway into Sadong.
After we were done being in awe we hiked back down. We were going to Sadong, the next big town. As were walking we notice this huge staircase.... I hate heights, and this staircase was so spirally. But the bridge looked really cool.
This is what the staircase looked like..... ughhhh. I had to stop and take a picture of this crazy thing.
Downside- Going down this metal staircase which will make me dizzy, Upside- beautiful views and life experiences!
And here's my selfie, as expected!
The staircase from the bottom! And the beautiful view.
On with our walk...
The view as we get further away. The Dodong lighthouse is to the far left which is why you can't see it in my pictures.
After however many hours later, we finally make it to town, sweaty, tired and stinky! This was a great day to take photos. The clouds make the mountains look so eerie and beautiful.
I was so shocked at how much beauty i've been seeing. I absolutely love with place.
I must admit, my camera takes pretty awesome pictures. I'm glad I spent the $250 to buy it lol. This looks like a postcard! But i'm also just a great photographer!
I got a picture of the whole town. It looks so pretty. The clouds look amazing.
After seeing the town of Sadong, we decided to wrap it up for the day. Too much adventure with little sleep. Also, we didn't want to miss our dinner time for 6:30 pm. Dinner was the same shit we had for lunch nothing special again. We called it a night very early. I think we fell asleep around 9-10 pm after we ate and bathed. We had an early day for Sunday.
