After Fort Santiago we walked back through Intramuros. I love this area a lot, there is so much charm and history here. All these buildings tell a story. There is even a small university at the entrance of Intramuros.
As you were walking back to the entrance, we had to pass San Augustin again. So we wanted to see if we could go in and get some photos, but of course the doors were closed. So I just snapped a selfie outside of the church.
Ocean Park is right by the bay. Entry was 600 PHP ($16), still very cheap. Included in this price we got to visit the Oceanarium, Trails to Antarctica (penguin exhibit and snow village) and we got to see a symphony show. In Korea I paid like $30 for the aquarium. They also have other activities you can pay extra to do like animal shows, swimming with sharks and stingrays, bird shows, glass bottom boat ride, etc.
A lot of the streets in Intramuros have these colonial style buildings, so we walked down them to take a look. Not realizing after the nice buildings stop there is a very poor area right there. As we walked down one of the streets we noticed this and turned back quickly because everyone stopped and stared at us as if we were not supposed to be there.
As we got back to the entrance we thought, "how will we get to ocean park"? None of us knew where it was, so we had no idea to get there. Our first thought was just take a cab which would be so easy, but all of us couldn't fit in a cab. But there were tons of Jeepney going by and when in Rome..... So we waved a Jeepney down and climbed in. On the Jeepney the stops are written on the car. Even though it's just a mode of transportation I thought it was awesome, so much fun. It only cost 6 PHP ($0.06) crazy right! It can fit about14 people, I think. We looked like typical foreigners, taking pictures inside a Jeepney. But it's so necessary! The Jeepney didn't drop us off right at Ocean Park, we had to walk about 5-10 mins, but it was close enough and oh so cheap!
When you first walk into the Oceanarium you can see these cool plants hanging from the ceiling. Not sure what kind of plant it is but it looks really cool.
I took a lot of pictures but I'm only going to post the ones I found that were the most interesting. Everything else you can see in the gallery.
I forgot the name of this fish, but it's supposed to look like a flame. I tried to google it and couldn't find anything! But it was cool.
This guy was so far away, but when I came to the glass he kept getting closer and came right up to the glass. He also gave me a smile, so cute!
After we were done with the fish, we went to the Arctic room. You can't get a really good look at the penguins because the windows were quite foggy.
After the Arctic room we went into the cold room. They give you jackets because its really cold. But we were so hot. I think I kept my jacket on for about 2 mins before I took it off and the other guys took theirs off. I still wasn't freezing, just cold but it felt nice. On our walk to the cold room we noticed there was a fish spa, so we decided to go back and try it. I have done it a few times but none of the guys had. We paid 120 PHP ($3.25) for an hour. The fish were pretty large. I'm used to the smaller fish first then the big ones. The guys freaked out about it of course and I was just so calm, cool and collected. It was quite funny.
Right by the fish spa there was a really nice view of the harbour.
After our fish pedicures we went to watch the water symphony. It was a watch and light show with music. They would play music and the water was coordinated with it. It was about an hour long. It was quite nice and relaxing to watch. There was also a really nice sunset, I will be uploading videos onto my YouTube page.
After the light symphony we went back to our rooms to freshen up, because we were going to go out for drinks. It was my co-workers birthday as well so we were going to celebrate. If you are looking to go out in Manila, check out Fort Bonifacio (The Fort). It's about 30 mins north of Manila, but cheap by taxi. This area is so different from Manila. It looks a lot cleaner and more happening. There lots of high rises and nice stores. There are also lots of clubs, bars and restaurants. If you want to go out for a nice night on the town, that's a place you need to go!
