Sometimes it can be a struggle to find a perfume scent that you like. There are thousands of different scents, different brands and different occasions you might want to wear it for. Not to mention, name brand perfumes can be pretty costly. Wouldn't it be great to make your own custom smell? GN Perfume is custom perfume shop with locations in Seocho, Itaewon, Myeongdong & some other locations throughout Korea. Through this experience, you will be able to see how much goes into customizing a perfume and how to choose the scent that you want.
How it Works
When you walk into the store you are immediately greeted by a consultant who will ask for your reservation information. Then you will be seated at a table and be asked to fill out your information, like name, age, nationality, type of scent you like and other information. (Don't worry, they do have forms in English). Then after that the consultant will bring out 5 different scents, which you will need to spray on a testing strip, and you need to choose one that you like best. This scent will be your perfume base.
Next, you are given a smelling chart along with 6 different scents to test. Once you smell the scent you are supposed to write down the name and the first thing that comes to your mind when you smell it. I found describing the scents to be a bit challenging because I wasn't sure how to describe them. Also, after the first 5 scents it's hard to get those smells out of your mind. They do give you a cup of coffee beans to neutralize the smells but then I ended up having the scent of coffee on my mind. If you aren't really liking any of the smells the consultant can also bring out more scents.
The last few steps involve choosing the scents that you like the most and writing how many droplets of the scent you want to add into your perfume base (hence the quantity column on the right). My base smells was like a light vanilla smell. I love floral perfumes so I wanted that to have a large quantity, so I chose two different floral scents. I also like citrusy smells but not too much so I added a hint of grapefruit and a hint of lemon.
Lastly, you open your perfume base bottle and add droplets of whatever scents you chose into your bottle. You will notice it is only about 90% full, which is because your base scents will be added again after you add the droplets. Be sure not to touch the sides of your bottle with the dropper or it will change the scent of the other perfumes. Now for the fun part where you come up with a name for your perfume, which is actually a lot harder then it seems. Then you are handed your perfume and asked to test the smell to see if you are happy with it. If not you can add more droplets but you will be advised not to as the smell with change as the perfume settles. Below is my perfume!
When you are 100% sure of the smell and your name sticker is on the bottle, it is put in a pretty blue box and wrapped up for you and then you are all set to go after you pay.
