Ultra Music Festival is the king of all music festivals! It is held in over 15 countries all over the world! No matter where in the world UMF is taking place people from all over the world will travel just to attend. The first music festival I EVER attended was UMF in Korea. I was actually quite nevous because I had only recently become a fan of EDM and had never ever been to a concert, so I didn't know what to expect. Spring and summer are music festival season, so here are some things to consider if you are or want to attend!
Have an Open Mind & Be Non-Judgemental
I can admit that when I firest heard EDM I thought it was stupid. I thought how can people actually dance to these beats and everything sounded the same. After working in a nightclub that played EDM & house music I came to appreciate it. I've learned that I need to give new things a chance before I decided to judge. When experiencing something new you should always go into it with an open mind. Having an open mind allows you to get out of your comfort zone and learn how to enjoy what is happening around you. You will learn knew things about yourself and even possibly change perceptions that you once had.
I am definitely guilty of judging people. It's hard not to have an opinion on things that are strange to you. However, being at a music festival you will notice people will be wearing unusual clothing, acting a fool and most likely be on drugs. If that's not what you're into cool, keep it moving and don't worry about what other people are doing. If you do, it will be impossible for you to have fun!
Pace Yourself & Stay Hydrated
UMF is a two or three day, depending on the country, festival. It is also an ALL day event. Don't think you have to be there all day just because you bought a ticket. Raving is very tiring, especially with the summer time heat. It's okay to miss some acts or sit down. I guarantee other people will be doing the same. Make sure to drink a lot of water, you don't want to get heat stroke!
Everyone attends music festivals for the same reason: to have fun. Most likely strangers will come and talk to or overly excited ravers will want you to join the crowd with cheering. So why not? You should embrace people around you and live in the moment.
Keep your group small
Big crowds are really complicated because there are too many people to keep in contact with. Also, it's harder to meet up and easier to lose people. Groups of 4~6 people is a good amount of people to go with. That way you can split into two groups if need be and there are less people to worry about. Smaller group is also better if you want to find good spots closer to the stage.
Wear Comfortable Clothes & shoes
I know everyone wants to look good, but there are just some things you should not wear to a music festival. First of all, heels and open toe shoes are a no no. People will crush your toes and you will be in excruciating pain! Wear old running shoes, that way you don't have to worry about them getting dirty and your feet are somewhat protected. For rave wear, make sure you have something on that is breathable and weather appropriate.
Be Mindful of Your Belongings!!!
Too many times people lose or have their belongings stolen. Remember, you are going to a music festival with thousands of other people! Do not wear your expensive sun glasses or other accessories, most likely you will get bumped and lose something. Also, do not be trusting and leave your belongings on the ground where you will be standing, that's just asking for someone to take it. The best thing to do is keep cash and your ID in your pocket or get a locker.
Go to the After-Parties
The last thing you should do if you want to have fun is go to the after parties! There are always after parties following the festival. Most likely you can get in for free because of your Ultra wristband! Even if you don't get in free why stop the party at the festival!
I hope these tips help you to have an amazing time at Ultra!
