On our last morning we decided to go to Hansan island. It was about 20 minutes away from Tongyeong Ferry terminal. The ferry comes and goes more often to this island. It is a lot bigger but there's not a lot to do. But, Hansando is a really important island in Korean history. To get around the island, most people bring their cars. Since we don't have a car we decided we would just go to see the temple because we could walk there.
There wasn't a lot of people going to Hansando, or at least it didn't seem like it. But a lot of people brought their cars on the ferry so they could drive around the island. This island is important because it's where General Yi Sun-Sin defeated the Japanese.
This island is just so quiet and peaceful. It reminds me of being at a cottage on a weekend.
The Korean war ships are called Tutleships (Geobukseon), built by General Yi Sun-Sin. On the way to the island there are stone Turtleship statues in the sea leading to Hansando. Also, on the island you see them.
Walking to the temple.
We wanted a cold drink, then saw they had beer. Why not? We thought.
The temple was only about a 10 minute walk. But we took our time and strolled along the path snapping pictures and admiring the scenery. We finally got to the temple. I made friends with the guard so he let us in for free!
To get to the palace you have to walk up a couple flights of stairs. But you get these beautiful views of the blue water.
Cheongyeolsa was built as a memorial to Admiral Yi Sun-Sin's service to Korea, especially by defeating the Japanese. It has 5 gates, shines, an exhibition hall and a pavilion, plus beautiful views.
One of the beautiful views from a pagoda.
I love the background here.
This is so beautiful!
I think we were only at the temple for about 15 minutes. There wasn't really much to see. On the way back to the ferry we walked past this dock. I think this was my favourite place on the island. Overall Tongyeong was a great trip. I'm glad I decided to come here for a few days. This is definitely not a weekend getaway place, you need more time to go explore the islands and well as the city.
