After I was done resting in my hostel... talking to my roommate who was an older lady from Montreal (Canada) who talked way too much, I continued with my walk to Little India. If you look at the map, Little India is the rectangular area to the left. I was coming from the area on the right, a little past H5.
I didn`t really know why I was going, I kinda just followed my map, but it really only had attractions on the bus route that the bus followed. But I saw lots of nice buildings on my way to Little India. Singapore has a huge percentage of Muslims, so there are lots of Mosques and Temples.
There are also a lot of colourful buildings. A lot of the building are very neat as well.
There was only one main reason I wanted to go to Little India, Sri Veeranakaliamman Temple. It took me awhile to find this temple. Little India is a lot larger than it looks on the map, so I had to walk a lot further than I expected. But this temple is so pretty. It looks similar to Sri Mariamman Temple, because of the tower on the top. But this temple has a different story; it depicts Kali, a Hindu Goddess and wife of Shiva a Hindu God. Kali has 4 arms representing 4 directions of space. She actually destroys people to reincarnate. At the temple you can see the images of her with a necklace made out of skulls. It`s really interesting.
There were about three different types of temples on the same street but I just looked at the largest one. I was starving, just down the road I saw this restaurant because it obviously stands out. I haven`t had Indian food since i`ve been here yet, so when the guys outside asked me to come eat here I went to check out the menu.
The prices we cheaper than what I had expected, so I decided I would stay and eat. One of the men that worked there recommended that I try the Chicken Tikka Masala, so I did. I also got garlic naan bread, which was the best I have ever had so far. To drink I got masal ice tea, which reminded me of bubble tea minus the bubbles. But the food was delicious! I`m glad I went here. My meal was about 25 sgd, and the people were so friendly. In Korea at the mall, I pay the same price for Indian food.
After I ate I decided that I was going to go to Orchard road. It was far from Little India and I would be walking there. As I was walking I came across this building. The colours were so nice and it stood out a lot. This building isn`t even anything special, but I loved the colours.
So, I continued on walk though Little India. I came across a street of local markets, which were really cheap. Too bad I didn`t need any. There are a lot more things to see in Little India, but unfortunately I was pressed for time.
I think it took me a good hour to get to Orchard road from Little India. I knew it was far, but I didn`t think it would be as far as it was.
Orchard Road is a 2.2 km road filled with retail stores. It is the most popular shopping area in Singapore and a huge tourist destination. There are more than 10 shopping centers on this street alone, with a large amount of store inside. I think I went into at least 4 different malls. Orchard road is filled with beautiful lights and shopping galore.
Singapore is an expensive country as I mentioned before, but I've never seen so many luxury stores on one road! There`s Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton, etc. and there is also multiples of these stores. Most of these stores are huge, multi level stores as well.
I read about the Ion in my lonely planet book. ION is a futuristic looking mall on Orchard Road, and the most popular. There is also a 56 storey tower attached to it with a top floor viewing gallery. I didn`t get to go because I came too late, it is open from 2-8pm. During the day it looks like a big platinum silver building, but at night it looks like this.
I knew Singapore had Gong Cha because every time I get it I can see all the countries where it is located. Since I didn`t have internet it was hard to get directions to find a Gong Cha. So, I went to Starbucks to use their WiFi and it said there was one in the area. It must have taken me 40 min to find this place, so I gave up. As I was walking to get on the MRT lo and behold look what I find! Their menu is very different than Korea`s, and it is also cheaper. I think I got lychee tea with pearls, mmmmm.
I think I ended up leaving Orchard Road at 9 30 pm. which is pretty late. I was so tired from walking all day, I decided to take the MRT back to the hostel.
