Another late post....this no internet thing needs to be solved this week! So this weekend my coworker really wanted to go to the Bonguensa Temple by Samseong station. I really didn't feel like going because I had to go to the dentist early in the morning. Also, the weather out here is CRAZY humid. I straighten my hair and before I even leave the house it's puffy. Ughhh #hairproblems. But anyway I decided to go since no one else would go with him. He was going to take forever since getting a bus from Dongtan on a nice Saturday morning will take awhile. So I decided to walk around. This was right outside of the subway station. Koreans love their water fountains!
I've heard so much about the Coex Mall. Apparently it is the largest underground shopping mall in Korea. Unfortunately it is under construction so there's about 6 stores open right now.
So since I didn't have anything to do I just sat on a bench by the subway to wait for my coworker for about 40 mins. Yes it was humid but I was tired of walking. I think this was called the World Trade Square, but I can't remember.
Finally when my coworker come we left to walk to the temple. It is about 5 mins away from the Samseong subway station.
Here are the Four Celestial Kings (North, West, East, South). Before you go into the temple you are supposed to bow to them.
I love paper lanterns! They're so beautiful.
Here it is! The reason why I even came in the first place. I love all the different Buddha statues. This one is called Mireuk Daebul which means Great Statue of Maitreya Buddha. Maitreya is the future Buddha who vowed to save sentient beings. This statue depicts Maitreya coming down to earth to save people who are suffering. I love this!
The irony of having a beautiful peaceful temple in the hustle and bustle of a busy city....
We finished at the temple in about an hour. So we decided to make one more pit stop to Olympic park. Seoul hosted the 1988 summer Olympics. Ironically the year I was born :). This is a beautiful park. There is a nice big pond with fountains and ducks swimming about. But my phone died so I couldn't get any pictures from that.
