As I was on Naver, I came across a post on theme cafes in Seoul which named Assouline Lounge as one of the best in the Gangnam area. Lately I've been getting back into visiting theme cafes and getting out more alone. Not that I don't like to hang out with my friends but I am a true introvert and love spending time alone, doing things by myself and enjoying my quality time with myself. So after my date alone at the Beats by Dre theater I headed over to Assouline, which was about a 5 min walk. Like I mentioned before Apgujeong is very ritzy and glamorous like Beverly Hills. Walking in this area you only see luxury cars driving around and the lounge is right beside the infamous Hermes store.
Assouline Seoul is the only location in Asia. There are locations in New York, Paris, London and some other locations. Going to this lounge I expected it to be packed like they usually are but it was very quiet. It is half restaurant and half book store.
Right away I was greeted with a friendly smile and led to a table. The staff here are very attentive and speak English so that was an extra bonus. It was not really what I had in mind, I didn't expect it to look so fancy. It didn't have a cafe feel to it, it had a restaurant ambiance.
Assouline is more like a high class cafe, actually I wouldn't even call it a cafe because most of the menu is lunch or dinner entrees. It's not cheap either, I ordered mushroom and bacon cream spaghetti which was 26k and a glass of wine that was 13k. I have to say the pasta was amazing! Usually Korean cream pasta and very light and a bit too liquidy (not a word lol) but this one was a bit thicker and the flavour was delicious. The wine was really good as well! Worth my 39k for sure.
From my seat this is the view I had. After eating I walked around a bit to look at some of the books and other things they had. There are a lot of Valentino books which are very expensive. Obviously I didn't go there to buy books I just wanted to look around. Feel free to flip through the books to learn about fashion trends or places to travel.
There are a variety of books from travel to fashion to cooking. Although most of the books are on fashion. But check out the bookstore while you wait on your food or after your food is done.
These were some of the books on the coffee tables on display. I wonder if people actually buy anything from here seeing as the prices are quite steep.
These model cares are 1.3k, yes that is about $1,400!!!!!! Not quite sure why but okay. When you are looking around make sure you are careful,, there is a lot of class and you don't want to break something you can't pay for.
Getting there: Take the Bundang Line (yellow line) to Apgujeong Rodeo and take Exit 5. Once you exit go straight and take the first right on to a small side street (Eonju-ro 172-gil) and continue straight until you hit Apgujeong-ro 48-gil and make a left. Follow that street down until you get to a main street and you will see CGV on your right and continue down the road to the next street and make a right. It is right beside Hermes on the left side of the street.
Address; 631-36 Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
